Effective Management of Botrytis in Grape Vineyards and Pesticide Safety Review
OVERVIEW
The fungus Botrytis cinerea (which will be called Botrytis throughout the rest of this course) goes by a few common names such as bunch rot, grey mold, or even Noble rot.
Botrytis is the most important plant pathogen responsible for bunch rot and sour rot of grapes. The name grey mold is the most fitting as this fungus looks like grey powder on the fruits. In fact, the species name cinerea of Botrytis cinerea is derived from Latin and means “grapes like ashes.”
This course focuses on a powerful new fungicide to fight Botrytis: Mevalone, newly launched in California.
Mevalone provides effective activity against Botrytis and can be a boost to integrated disease management programs in a sustainable manner as a biorational product. This product with its innovative formulation, unique FRAC group, MRLs exemption, and flexibility gives grape growers a new excellent tool for Botrytis management. For as long as Botrytis has been a problem in vineyards, Mevalone is a strong, clever, and intuitive solution for all grapes.
